About the data
Lead Pipe Map shows service line inventory counts for U.S. community water systems, as reported by states to EPA's Safe Drinking Water Information System (SDWIS). The current data is EPA SDWIS service line inventory, 2026 Q3, from EPA's public Service Line Inventory report. Location, population and contact details come from SDWIS water system and service area records on EPA Envirofacts.
Categories
- Lead: any portion of the service line is lead.
- Galvanized requiring replacement: galvanized pipe that is or was downstream of a lead pipe, or where that can't be ruled out. Lead particles can stick to it.
- Lead status unknown: material not yet identified.
- Non-lead: confirmed copper, plastic or other non-lead material.
Limits
- Counts are self-reported by utilities through their states and can lag local inventories by months.
- System-wide counts don't tell you about a specific address. Always check the utility's address-level inventory.
- Some systems haven't reported counts; their pages say so.
- Pages are published for community water systems with any lead, galvanized or unknown lines, and for all systems serving 1,000 or more people.
Lead Pipe Map isn't affiliated with EPA or any utility, and it isn't medical or legal advice. Your utility's own inventory is the authoritative source for any address.
