Got a letter saying your line is lead or unknown?
Utilities must notify every home with a lead, galvanized-requiring-replacement or unknown line. Here's what to do first:
- Check the pipe yourself where it enters the house.
- Filter drinking and cooking water with an NSF/ANSI 53 lead-certified filter.
- Test your water through your utility or a certified lab.
- Ask your utility about free replacement, or get plumber quotes.
